ARRIVAL IN JOHANNESBURG / PRETORIA

Preparation involved was like any other international travel.  Currency (Rand $US) plus credit cards.  Typhoid injections (but not yellow fever) and malaria tablets.  Mosquitos cause some dreadful illnesses    other than malaria, so the key is not to be bitten (we have packed plenty of repellent which contains DEET.  Have packed a basic medical kit - the rule is if you take it you probably won't need it!
The flight to Johannesburg from Sydney was very tiring (13 hrs and 13 mins) in daylight, all over ocean.  The 747 plane did not travel any further south than 42 degrees (no sign of wreckage from the mystery flight!)  Time difference at present is 9 hrs with daylight saving in Victoria.
Our driver was not at the airport to meet us, which was a bit unnerving.  He finally arrived half an hour late.

Pretoria is shown on the map as a separate city, but it is really a continuation of J'burg.  No sign of Oscar but he is here somewhere!

Our hotel in Pretoria has a stunning view over the city.
