CAPE TOWN - CAPE OF GOOD HOPE

All day today we toured the peninsula by small bus, from Cape Town to the Cape of Good Hope (so named by the Dutch sailors who were hopeful of reaching the spice islands from there).  It was a big day (8.30 am to 6.00 pm) Some of the journey was along a narrow, winding road clinging to the cliff at high altitude.  Upon reaching the cape we rode the funicular railway to Cape Point to take photos of the area where the two oceans meet.  It was a very barren and windy location, with the sea being quite  tempestuous.
Next stop a penguin colony which contained slightly larger and prettier birds than our fairy penguins.
Last was at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens which are vast and comprehensive, with too much to take in for us because it was a relatively short stop.
Compared to the time we have spent to date in these wonderful countries it was a relatively boring and uneventful day.  It was long and tiresome and we did not learn very much.

We will be very sad indeed indeed to leave Cape Town.

Many beautiful beaches on the way to the Cape of Good Hope.

The road is high above the ocean and recently reconstructed to alleviate rock falls on the road.

This is the actual Cape of Good Hope. The yacht 2 km out was having a hard time in the ocean currents.

A South African "jackal" penguin (because of their vocal sound).  Beautiful markings and a "dinner suit".

A group of penguins seen from the boardwalk in the conservation area by the seashore.

We made it to the Cape.

Lovely lady from Nigeria on our small bus tour.  Her tight hair ringlets took 4 hours by 3 hairdressers to complete.  This process is repeated every 1 - 2 months.
